Below are my picks.<\/p>\n<p>My yardstick has been to assess filmmakers, performers and composers who raised their game, who did the unexpected, and whose contribution to a film made a marked difference.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This is especially true in the supporting categories where several of my choices made the particular films considerably more enjoyable due their contributions.<\/p>\n<p>Some of these films have not opened in the UK yet, but they will be in contention for the Golden Globes, Academy Awards and the Baftas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best picture<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lincoln (pictured)<\/p>\n<p>Life of Pi<\/p>\n<p>Silver Linings Playbook<\/p>\n<p>The Master<\/p>\n<p>The Impossible<\/p>\n<p>Zero Dark Thirty<\/p>\n<p>Moonrise Kingdom<\/p>\n<p>Anna Karenina<\/p>\n<p>Killing Them Softly<\/p>\n<p>End of Watch<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Director:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Steven Spielberg (Lincoln)<\/p>\n<p>Ang Lee (Life of Pi)<\/p>\n<p>David O.
