{"id":8143,"date":"2015-05-31T11:10:14","date_gmt":"2015-05-31T11:10:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/?p=8143"},"modified":"2015-07-09T12:53:56","modified_gmt":"2015-07-09T12:53:56","slug":"kfmf-international-tv-series-gala-rocks-the-tauron-arena","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/?p=8143","title":{"rendered":"KFMF: International TV series music gala rocks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Krakow-Hilda-1-x6501.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8145\" src=\"https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Krakow-Hilda-1-x6501.jpg\" alt=\"Krakow Hilda 1 x650\" width=\"650\" height=\"387\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Krakow-Hilda-1-x6501.jpg 650w, https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Krakow-Hilda-1-x6501-300x179.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>By Ray Bennett<\/p>\n<p>KRAKOW \u2013 Themes from some of the most popular television shows in the world rocked the impressive new Tauron Arena here on Saturday as the Krakow Film Music Festival celebrated the exciting vibrancy of music for TV series.<\/p>\n<p>An enthusiastic crowd of around 15,000 greeted familiar themes from shows such as \u201cDownton Abbey\u201d, \u201cThe Borgias\u201d, \u201cHouse of Cards\u201d, \u201cVikings\u201d and \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Many of the scores\u2019 composers were on hand to perform or conduct their themes and cues with several performed in concert for the first time against video clips from the shows.<\/p>\n<p>Diego Navarro, director of Filmucit\u00e9, the Tenerife International Film Music Festival, conducted several pieces performed by Sinfonietta Cracovia and the Polish Radio Choir.<\/p>\n<p>Jeff Beal kicked things off as arranger and conductor of\u00a0a collection of themes from HBO shows including \u201cBand of Brothers\u201d, \u201cThe Pacific\u201d and \u201cJohn Adams&#8221;, &#8220;Six Feet Under\u201d and his own \u201cRome\u201d and \u201cThe Newsroom\u201d. He returned in the second half of the concert to conduct his evocative \u201cHouse of Cards\u201d cues plus themes with echoes of the Middle East from the new miniseries \u201cThe Dovekeepers\u201d that featured Andon\u2019s haunting flute.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Giacchino\u2019s epic music for \u201cLost\u201d followed and then Atli Orvarsson\u2019s \u201cChicago Fire\u201d theme with the visceral growl of Tina Guo\u2019s cello and Nordic tones from singer Hilda \u00d6rvarsd\u00f3ttir that raised the hair on the back of the neck.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Krakow-Tina-Einar-x650.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8146\" src=\"https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Krakow-Tina-Einar-x650.jpg\" alt=\"Krakow Tina Einar x650\" width=\"650\" height=\"398\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Krakow-Tina-Einar-x650.jpg 650w, https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Krakow-Tina-Einar-x650-300x184.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The moving quiet and breathtaking fury of Bartosz Chajdecki\u2019s dynamic score for Polish TV war drama \u201cMisja Afghanistan\u201d led to the elegant poignancy of John Lunn\u2019s piano on his theme and cues for \u201cDowntown Abbey\u201d. Trevor Morris brought the first half to a close as conductor of his sinuous themes filled with intrigue for \u201cThe Borgias\u201d and the majestic sweep of \u201cThe Tudors\u201d that included the moving lament for Jane Seymour.<\/p>\n<p>With the click of scissors and the shriek of a butcher\u2019s knife sharpened on steel, Daniel Licht\u00a0 (with percussionist Norman Kim) added to the wry and sinister sounds of bow-strings on xylophone and glockenspiel for his score for \u201cDexter\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Then came the rush of Lukasz Targosz\u2019s exciting score for \u201cThe Pack\u201d with a video clip from the show that showed a man drowning informed by the lovely voice of Anna Karwan (pictured top) and Tina Guo\u2019s vivid electronic cello as it gripped the jagged edge of grief.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/fmf_main_en.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-7782\" src=\"https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/fmf_main_en-300x134.jpg\" alt=\"fmf_main_en\" width=\"300\" height=\"134\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/fmf_main_en-300x134.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/fmf_main_en.jpg 490w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Blood spilled on the big screen as Clive Owen employed his scalpel in a clip from Steven Soderbergh\u2019s \u201cThe Knick\u201d while the orchestra provided the incisive bite of Cliff Martinez\u2019s imaginative score ahead of the two Beal pieces.<\/p>\n<p>Trevor Morris took the baton again for a show-stopping performance of his \u201cVikings\u201d score with its pounding clamour and chanting chorus boosted by Guo\u2019s guttural electronic cello and topped by the high Norse calls of the splendid Einar Selvik (pictured above with Guo and Morris) as he drew evocative cries from a travik lyre and tegelharp.<\/p>\n<p>Diego Navarro stepped to the conductor\u2019s podium for a performance of the captivating theme from HBO\u2019s \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d by Ramin Djawadi with all its depth and resonance infused with the richness of Guo&#8217;s regular cello.<\/p>\n<p>Djawadi took to the stage with the other composers and soloists to accept sustained applause from an obviously delighted audience.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Krakow-TV-final-bow-x650.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8147\" src=\"https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Krakow-TV-final-bow-x650.jpg\" alt=\"Krakow TV final bow x650\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Krakow-TV-final-bow-x650.jpg 650w, https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Krakow-TV-final-bow-x650-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ray Bennett KRAKOW \u2013 Themes from some of the most popular television shows in the world rocked the impressive new Tauron Arena here on Saturday as the Krakow Film Music Festival celebrated the exciting vibrancy of music for TV &hellip;
