The packed audience at Teatro Guimer\u00e1 in Santa Cruz demonstrated their agreement with prolonged standing ovations. Professionals in the audience beamed and one nodded with approval as members of the orchestra smiled and hugged one another at the end: \u201cYou never see that!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Conductor Jos\u00e9 A. Cubas led the 85-piece ensemble through a wide-ranging number of cues by mostly Academy Award-winning Hollywood composers in an evening titled \u201cWarriors From the Silver Screen\u201d. The musicians performed with evident enjoyment and there were fine contributions by soloists including vocalist Antonella Vega Guti\u00e9rrez, violinist Eugenia Jaubert, flautists Elisa Bartolom\u00e9 G\u00f3mez and Ana Ayala and horn player Susana Rodr\u00edguez Fari\u00f1a.<\/p>\n<p>The concert began with music from \u2018The Witcher 3\u2019 video game by Polis composer Marcin Przybylowicz, who was on hand along with Agata Grabowiecka (pictured above with host\u00a0Vanesa Bocanegra) from the Krakow Film Music Festival, which helped produce the concert.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/?attachment_id=9279\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-9279\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-9279\" src=\"https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Diego-Navarro-James-Fitzpatrick-Ray-Fimucit\u00e9XI-x325.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"325\" height=\"261\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Diego-Navarro-James-Fitzpatrick-Ray-Fimucit\u00e9XI-x325.jpg 325w, https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Diego-Navarro-James-Fitzpatrick-Ray-Fimucit\u00e9XI-x325-300x241.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 325px) 100vw, 325px\" \/><\/a>Epic themes from \u201cEl Cid\u201d (1961) and \u201cBen-Hur\u201d (1959) by three-time Oscar-winner Mikl\u00f3s R\u00f3zsa then topped and tailed the show, which also featured two suites by Oscar-winner Hans Zimmer from \u201cGladiator\u201d (2000) and \u201cKing Arthur\u201d (2004).<\/p>\n<p>A plangent suite from \u201cThe Last Valley\u201d (1971) by four-time Oscar-winner John Barry began the second half followed by the thunderous \u201cRide to Diablo\u201d cue from \u201cTaras Bulba\u201d by double-Oscar-winner Franz Wazman. The Celtic-influence \u201cFor the Love of a Princess\u201d cue from James Horner\u2019s Academy Award-winning score for \u201cBraveheart\u201d (1995) led to Jerome Moross\u2019s powerful main title theme for \u201cThe War Lord\u201d (1959) and the pure adventure of Oscar-winner Elmer Bernstein\u2019s \u201cRiver Crossing\u2019 cue for \u201cZulu Dawn\u201d (1979).<\/p>\n<p>During the evening,\u00a0British record producer and music publisher James Fitzpatrick (Silva Screen Records, Tadlow Music, pictured above with Diego Navarro and me) was presented with Fimucit\u00e9\u2019s Ant\u00f3n Garc\u00eda Abril Award, which honours contributions to film music. Accepting the award, he said, \u201cI\u2019ve spent 30 years trying to prevent the extinction of film music.
