They include 21 world premieres and seven international bows with films from around the world.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Festival CEO Piers Handling said, \u201cToday\u2019s lineup showcases beloved auteurs alongside fresh voices in filmmaking, including numerous female powerhouses. The sweeping range in cinematic storytelling from around the world is a testament to the uniqueness of the films that are being made.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He made the announcement via the internet as a scheduled press conference was cancelled out of respect for the victims of this week\u2019s shooting in Toronto.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/?attachment_id=9473\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-9473\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-9473\" src=\"https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/tiff_logo-300x185.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"185\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/tiff_logo-300x185.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thecliffedge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/tiff_logo.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>World premiers at the festival, which runs Sept. 6-16 and effectively kicks off the movie industry\u2019s awards season, will include the British films \u201cRed Joan\u201d directed by Trevor Nunn and starring Sophie Cookson and Judi Dench, \u201cWidows\u201d starring Elizabeth Debicki and Liam Neeson adapted from the Lynda La Plante\u2019s novel by Gillian Flynn and director Steve McQueen and \u201cColette\u201d with Keira Knightley (pictured) and Dominic West directed by Wash Westmoreland. \u201cPapi Chulo\u201d by John Butler from Ireland will have its world premiere as a special presentation as will British filmmaker Michael Winterbottom\u2019s \u201cThe Wedding Guest\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Mexican Oscar-winner Alfonso Cuaron\u2019s \u201cRoma\u201d will make its Canadian bow as a special presentation along with American \u201cAbout a Boy\u201d writer Ben Hedges\u2019s \u201cBen Is Back\u201d starring Kathryn Newton and Julia Roberts, Canadian Jason Reitman\u2019s \u201cThe Front Runner\u201d starring Hugh Jackman and Vera Farmiga, and Pawel Pawlikowski\u2019s \u201cCold War\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Oscar-winning \u201cLa La Land\u201d director Damien Chazelle\u2019s \u201cFirst Man\u201d starring Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy; actor Bradley Cooper\u2019s revamp of \u201cA Star Is Born\u201d, in which he stars opposite Lady Gaga; and Dan Fogelman\u2019s \u201cLife Itself\u201d starring British actress Olivia Cooke with Samuel L.
